COVID-19 Communications – an opportunity to build morale and trust

As the COVID-19 vaccine slowly rolls out across the globe, the challenge is how can any business, non-profit, or association communicate effectively with employees, when most of them won’t get a shot for months?

For any workplace to be truly back to normal, is there any reason not to strive for 100% vaccine compliance? Can this be accomplished without mandates? The answer to both these questions is yes.

To get there it will take calm measured, science-based, and courageous leadership, who can inspire team members and lead to a faster, and fuller reopening. It’s not just an HR function to disseminate these internal messages to employees. As the Wall Street Journal recently reported, some CEO’s are taking the lead as champions of public health within their organization.

Here are five steps to consider when creating a COVID-19 communications effort, as CommCore outlined in an article written for Chief Executive Magazine:
  1. Emphasize safety
  2. Pick the right messages customized for the diverse 2021 workforce
  3. Use credible and compelling messengers
  4. Plan for the downsides and what ifs
  5. Communicate in an omni-channel world
CommCore has also launched Project RESTART to assist organizations with the communications effort to reach 100% vaccine compliance while building morale and trust and managing the challenging questions and concerns that employees have.
