CommCore welcomes intern Elexis Hipp to the team this summer! Elexis is a senior at American University majoring in Public Relations and Strategic Communications, with a minor in History. Read more below to get to know her.
Three words I would use to describe myself…
Passionate, ambitious and determined.
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about learning new things and investing my time in new hobbies. Because there is so much to be involved with in the world, I love taking the time to really dedicate myself to things I haven’t tried before, like learning a new language, a new instrument, how to cook a new recipe, etc. I feel accomplished when I can learn something new no matter how small each day.
Why intern for CommCore?
I have always been interested in, and wanted to learn more about real-world crisis communications. Even before I chose public relations as my major, I was always fascinated by the responses companies would give and the stances that they’d take in the midst of a media crisis or after one. I would like to experience firsthand what goes into making decisions like that and how it can ultimately shape the public’s perception of a company.
What is your favorite social media channel?
My favorite social media channel is definitely Facebook. I like that I can use it to keep in touch with friends all over the world, but also keep up-to-date on trending news and even just use it to watch funny videos or share memes. I also like the fact that Facebook encourages more disucssion, as opposed to other media channels where the focus is more on sharing pictures or ideas in short snippets.
What do you hope to get involved with the most at CommCore?
I hope to be able to sit in on a media training. My public relations classes have made it a point to stress how important they are, and have also walked us through examples where CEOs or spokespersons have not been properly trained. But, I have not personally seen the effort that goes into getting someone trained and media ready. I would like to start learning the basics of this skill, as I think it is an invaluable one to have in your toolkit as a public relations practitioner.
